Six Raw Honey Back-to-School Snacks for Your Kiddos

The school year is coming soon, and getting kids easy-to-make, easy-to-pack snacks for their day is one of the greatest challenges that comes with it. Of course, the 8 hours of quiet can be a reprieve, but when they get home, there’s always going to have to be another round of snacks—and you want them to eat healthy, with tasty food that will increase their immune responses, aid digestion, and pack in the nutrients that they avoid all day.

Raw honey is a great way to do that, and it’s a delicious snack that can help sneak some other vitamins and minerals into their diets. We’re giving you a list of fun ideas, all relying on Heavenly Organics Raw Honey that will have your kids eating the important macronutrients and micronutrients, and loving every bite.

Nut-Butter Sandwich

Everybody loves a classic. Peanut or almond butter, sweetened with a dollop of raw honey across some sourdough bread is a great way to incorporate some protein, simple carbs, fiber, and raw honey in a delicious and low-mess meal. It’s handheld, you can wrap it in a paper towel, and it’s portable! PB&Js eventually get old, but honey is a great way to shake things up. Try adding banana slices for a way to incorporate some fruit into it, too.

Granola

Speaking of portable things, let’s talk about one of the easiest ways to carry food around: inside of a resealable bag. Take some oats, nuts, fruit, or chocolate, and bind them together with some Heavenly Organics Raw Honey. Stick in the freezer, drop it in a bag, and it’s perfect for a quick snack when your kid gets home, or to ride all the way to school with them.

The nuts and grains will keep them sustained throughout the day. The honey will give them a gradual boost of energy. The sweetness is delicious. What more could you want?

Apples and Honey

Another classic snack, sliced apples and honey are a great way to get your kid to eat fruit and not consume too much sugar while they’re at it. It feels like a dessert, but if you portion it correctly, it’s hardly more sugar than a normal apple—but it tastes like so much more. Other fruits can work for this too, of course. Just make a nice little plate, put a spoon of honey in the center, and watch it vanish from the kitchen table in seconds.

Yogurt (Popsicles!)

We’re getting a little more creative on this one. Honey is a great sweetener, especially in yogurt to start the day. Sweetened yogurt often has a lot of added sugars that you might not want your kids having. Plain yogurt, sweetened with raw honey, fruit, and granola is filling, tasty, and nutritious.

If you want to get fancy with it, place it in a popsicle mold, and let it be dessert for the little ones after dinner. It’s healthier than ice cream, uniquely creamy, and because it’s frozen, a little goes a long way.

Honey Roasted Nuts

It’s a little on-the-nose, but there’s nothing wrong with simplicity. Take some nuts, like deshelled peanuts, pecans, walnuts, or cashews. Toss them in some honey. Sprinkle some cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and/or a little pinch of salt. Bake it for 10 minutes on 325° F. Toss it in a bag and send it to school with the kids, or keep it at home for something to get them through the day. It’s quick, it’s delicious, and it even makes a great garnish on salads.

Chocolate Honey Patties

Alright, you’re allowed to cheat on this one. A back-to-school snack should be portable, yummy, and healthy. Well, when your kid wants a sweet treat, you want something that delivers for that sweet tooth, but also has antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. That’s why we’re here. Try out Heavenly Organics’ Chocolate Honey Patties, with a variety of flavors (although the kids probably shouldn’t have the espresso ones). They’re made with three ingredients only, high-quality, and they’re easily portable. You might find yourself digging into the bag a little too much, but that just goes to show how good they are.
